Upgrade to integration system: impact on clinical systems
An essential upgrade to the Trust's integration engine will take place tonight, Tuesday 23 June from 10.00pm to 12.00am (midnight).
The integration engine is the system that enables information to flow between many of our clinical systems. During the two-hour window, the integration engine will be unavailable, which means some systems may be affected.
e-Care and SystmOne will remain fully operational and are not affected by this outage. However, a number of other systems that rely on integrations may experience disruption during this period.
Requests and results Pathology and radiology requests will not be sent to the laboratory and radiology systems during this time. Result will not flow back into e-Care. All requests and results will be sent through after the upgrade has completed at midnight.
Results from blood gas analysers, point of care testing and ECGs will flow into e-Care after the upgrade has been completed. Paper results will be available from the machines as usual.
ICE requesting in the community can continue, but our laboratories will not receive the request until the upgrade is complete.
Action
Pathology – Urgent pathology requests can be made on paper during this time. Please avoid making requests during this period if clinically appropriate.
Critically urgent results will be phoned to the requestor. Other results will be sent back to the requestor on paper reports via pod or runner.
All results will then appear in e-Care once the downtime is completed.
Radiology
Request as normal and follow up the request as below: Plain film IP requests – request on e-Care and send an Alertive to Radiographer on call or 564. Plain film ED requests – request on e-Care, no Alertive message required. CTs requests – request on e-Care and send an Alertive message to CT Radiographer – 870. Reports will be visible via the PACS link on eCare.
Blood transfusions The blood transfusion system (Haemonetics) will also be unavailable. Any units of blood issued during the upgrade will not show as ready for collection in Blood Track until the downtime is over. The lab will contact the ward to inform staff that blood is ready to be collected if the requestor indicated that the transfusion is required urgently during the downtime period. Staff will need to sign it out on paper rather than using the kiosk.
Patient demographics Patient demographic information will not flow from e-Care to our other clinical systems. This will most affect new patient registrations as the patient’s information will not be available within radiology or pathology systems. Maternity and ED staff should familiarise themselves with the departmental business continuity procedures for these situations.
Documentation Documentation from other systems would not be sent to e-Care during this time. This includes M*Modal, audiology results etc. Again, these would be sent through when the upgrade is complete.
All further updates regarding this upgrade will be made via the System Alerts dashboard.
